Sam Linders is a multidisciplinary designer and researcher with a focus on materials, colours and ceramics who graduated at Design Academy Eindhoven in 2015. Growing up she was surrounded by colours and textiles to get inspired with as her parents where interior designers and had their own furniture store.
Her way of working can be described as creating through experimentation. She believes that the material itself should guide the outcome, resulting in pure and honest objects and materials. Structured and extensive material experimentations forms the base for her material research.
While graduating, Sam already worked as a trend forecaster with Lidewij Edelkoort. Always looking for new materials and trends led her to ECCO LEATHER, where she spend eight years as a leather designer. She became an expert by making leather and colour collections each season. Working in the R&D, creating, making, experimenting and pushing the boundaries of the materials and machines. Creating highly innovative leathers with brands as Stone Island, Rick Owens and At.Kollektive. Exploring the best combinations of leather for the footwear collections of Studio Hagel and ECCO shoes. She knows how to work with high end brands in the fashion industry such as Louis Vuitton and Michael Kors. Doing projects where the focus is research based is something Sam has a lot of experience in and enjoys doing. For example the research she did into the aging of leathers or the behavior of natural dyes on leather. Working on concepts for installations during the Hotshop events or in stores.
Currently, Sam freelances as a designer and researcher in materials, and specializes in leather and mycelium. Collaborating with companies doing research, making materials and advising on colours and trends. Additionally, she has a new love for ceramics, a whole new world where boundaries can be pushed and experimentation starts all over again.
